Repairs & renovations: Painting your home for summer
December 18, 2019

As a homeowner, repairs & renovations can be longwinded, expensive and complicated. Painting however, is one of the best makeovers you can do for your home, because it doesn’t require a lot of time and effort, isn’t too expensive and with the right advice, isn’t very complicated.

Whether you want to paint the interior or exterior of your home (or both), the right colour scheme can make a massive difference to the look and feel of your home. At James Coatings, we provide our customers with a free colour consulting service, as well as colour matching your existing design scheme (when you don’t want to change these colours). So let’s take a look at painting your home’s interior and exterior for summer.

Interior painting for summer

If you have just completed repairs & renovations in your home, you might need to paint the interior of your home during the hot summer months. This can actually be an ideal time to paint, because you can open all the doors and windows to help dry the paint and remove the smell. You can also use your home’s ceiling fans to circulate the air. Another benefit of painting in warmer weather is that the heat thins the paint making it easier to apply. Summer light also helps you to select the best colours and tones for your home, particularly when you are painting shadowed areas, such as vaulted ceilings, skirting or cornices.

Exterior painting for summer

Summer is also a good time for exterior house painting, for most of the same reasons as above. Really hot days however, can be a challenge because the hotter the temperature the more the paint thickens in the tin and becomes more difficult to apply. To avoid this problem, if you must paint in very hot weather, you can mix a hot weather additive into your paint, but keep the tin out of the sun.
